Forest Hills Gardens, a top cottage community, is one of the most desirable areas to live in Queens. And one of the townhomes, built in 1935, is for sale! From what I can see, it’s gorgeous inside and out. The listing details 5 bedrooms and 4 baths, a finished basement, and parking for two cars. The floors look beautiful (I’m a sucker for well-done hardwood floors), with a nice layout. There’s even a yard, too!

What I want to know is why so many listings are written in title case? It makes no sense to my inner grammarian.

Forest Hills has really retained its early 20th century charm, by way of regulating its appearance:

To preserve the uniqueness of this neighborhood, Forest Hills Gardens has an active—obsessive, some would say—property owners’ association. Without the group’s blessing, you can’t make modifications to the outside of your home. When my next-door neighbor wanted to repaint the trim on his house, he had to figure out the precise green that wouldn’t clash with the rest of our row.

It may sound irritating, but this persnicketiness maintains the neighborhood in a classic and harmonious style. It’s key to preserving the illusion that New York City is a million miles away.

People find this is worth it, though. Forest Hills Gardens is the original cottage community, too. It certainly deserves the distinction of being one of the best.
