Archie Bunker House Worth Over $500,000

Archie Bunker

According to Zillow Archie Bunker’s could sell for $517,000. The attached house shown in the credits of All in the Family is at 89-70 Cooper Avenue, Glendale, Queens, across the street from St. John’s Cemetery, blocks from the new Atlas Mall and Forest Hills.

Isn’t that just so perfectly Queens these days? The average home sells for over $500,000, and retailers and developers are trying more expensive digs in overlooked neighborhoods. In that area, the house owner could just as easily be of Italian, Irish, Indian, Korean, Persian, or Polish background. And it’s almost served by subway, but really by cars and buses. Up the street there’s a grand Irish pub, a Bollywood-inspired bar, worn delis, and an old-school sit-down fish restaurant. (The Bunker’s neighborhood, according to the show’s producers, was based on Corona, with a fictitious address released giving Astoria as the neighborhood. But the fly-over scene and the Glendale address are what stick in our minds.)

I ran the Zillow on Archie’s old house after seeing Zillow had somehow forgotten to include it in Bird’s Eye View of Famous TV Homes (via Walk Through). Now to find the Castanza’s address.

Borders Joining Atlas Park in Glendale

The Shops at Atlas Park is a mall in development in the heart of old-school Queens. It’s in Glendale at the border of Middle Village.

Borders bookstore just announced they’ll open up there in the fall of 2006.

The real story is that retailers woke up to the money in these neighborhoods. They’re getting over the misperception that Queens is low-brow, low-income. Do you think that Queens Center Mall’s rep as the mall with the highest-revenue per square foot in the U.S. has anything to do with that?

Queens Open House Picks of the Weekend - May 28 & 29, 2005

3-Family Detached House in Glendale,
76-10 Cooper Ave. near 76th, Glendale, NY, $659,000, Open House: Sunday, May 29th, 12-2pm.  All right, it’s not too close to the subway, but $659,000 for a three-family?  See Craigslist for details.

2-Bedroom Condo in Astoria, 14-43 28th Avenue, #5A, Astoria NY, $380,000, Open House:  May 28 and 29, 11 am to 6 pm.  Not the best spot in Astoria, but pretty darn good.  This condo in a new building is definitely worth checking out.  Just ignore all the Corcoran hype-text.  See Corcoran for details.
