Willets Point Land Grab on Hold, Yet others get there cash!

Ok so i have a little inside scoop on whats the deal with Willets Point. So a while back the city was sitting with land owners on an individual basis, they were offering anywhere from $184 - $220 a sqft and that they have had deals as high as $230 a sqft. About 4 months ago, the city stopped returning calls to the landowners that they havent settled yet, then all of a sudden 2-3 weeks ago, those owners got calls letting them know that the city has stopped negotiating for now as the economy isnt great and will resume in a year or so, but that the owner can do whatever he wishes with that land, i.e. sell or whatever. To make things even more confusing is that the city has already paid some of the landowners a portion of the money and that they can keep it no matter what! whether the city proceeds or not, yet still allowing them to stay.
In the meantime there are rumors that the city has already rezoned the area… Whats to come of the City’s Iron Triangle? Stay Tuned!!!

Others get their cash, you mean.
There are no “rumors” about the land being rezoned; on November 13, 2008, the city council voted to rezone the land from M3 to C4-4. It’s called ULURP. Understand?
All of this info is not new if you’ve been following this story. But sometimes those who are more concerned with selling condos in LIC lose track of what’s going on in the rest of the city.
So there’s no scoop here. In fact, there’s some misinformation. The EDC has decided to develop the site in pieces, with the lower half of 126th Street happening first.

actually, the part about the city stopping negotiations is newish but i echo your sentiment about the LIC condomaniacs

It only makes sense that if the plan has been revised to happen in stages, that the negotiations would concentrate on phase 1.

The mayor is a joke , He is closing down hospitals and fire depts , lets buy up willets point so he can leave his mark on NY , and forget about the people who really need the fire dept and the hospitals . the mayor needs to get his head out of his butt , NY is broke we need to put our money where its needed most , maybe the Mayor can pay for it out of his pocket , because he keeps getting richer while NY goes broke
GOOD LOOKING OUT MIKE !!!!!!!!!
